Do you use food to manage your emotions?

Over the years have you become an expert in diets?

Do you know what you should do, but still find you are no further forward?

Is food your best friend, your worst enemy or sometimes both?

Has food, weight or bodyshape become a constant preoccupation?

Maybe it is time to try something different.....

I am a trained facilitator of the Understanding Your Eating programme (UYE) and have been working in the field of disordered eating for six years. I have conducted research into psychotherapeutic interventions for emotional eating disorders and presented my research at both BACP and COSCA research conferences. I regularly lecture on the topic of disordered eating at The University of Abertay Dundee and have recently written a chapter on counselling for eating problems for The Sage Handbook of Pluralistic Counselling. As well as many years of professional experience I also bring to my work personal experience of overcoming an emotional eating problem.

What is UYE?

The Understanding your Eating programme was developed by Professor Julia Buckroyd, a foremost figure in the field of eating disorder treatment in the UK.  The programme consists of a 5 week introductory course followed by the option of 9 advanced modules which are each 4 weeks long each and cover topics raised in the introduction in greater depth. You can find descriptions of the introductory program and advanced modules on the Understanding your Eating website  http://www.understandingyoureating.co.uk/

The introductory module focuses on beginning to develop a greater insight into what situations, feelings and thoughts might be triggering eating problems.  The intro and advanced modules each cost £125. I offer the UYE programme via face to face or Skype and can also offer tailored treatment programmes suited to your particular needs.

I conduct the on-line program via Skype and groups consist of no more than three participants and myself. If you prefer not to be in a group I am available for one to ones - this is only slightly more costly (let me know if you want to discuss this option)

For the online program you will need a broadband connection and Skype account and once set up Skype group calls work really well, we are each able to see each other and share experiences from the privacy of our respective homes or workplace. Participants are provided with programe workbooks in advance of sessions so that you can familiarise yourself with the material , make notes and begin thinking about the themes raised. We will work through the course material together but I find that those who regularly take time to prepare for sessions and reflect afterwards seem to benefit more from the course. It is recommended that clients do the introductory 5 week program first then we can discuss together which modules, if any, you might like to continue on with.
